As we hear some men talking about how one guy has thrashed most of them, we see Rajinikanth in the dark, we see his shadow, we see him from the back and even before we see his face, we see half of it while he's standing right behind the guy who has just knocked him down. The prelude to the introduction shot is just what every Rajinikanth fan wants to see. After being introduced without much hullabaloo in his last three films, Subbaraj gives us a bang for a buck Rajinikanth introduction scene. The story revolves around a hostel warden named Kaali (Rajinikanth) who comes to set things right. There's even the famous Rajinikanth cigarette flip but it comes with a surprise and it is best enjoyed when watched on the big screen. From a happy hop to an impromptu dance step and slow-motion walk to the flip of his hair with his own hands with panache we see Rajinikanth in his element after a long time and boy, it's a joy to watch him do what he is best at. Karthik Subbaraj succeeded in giving audience the Thalaivar in perfect measures that is a perfect Pongal gift to his fans.If there's one thing Karthik Subbaraj's Petta really succeeds in achieving, it is that it lets superstar Rajinikanth be himself and have fun on-screen. His background score is out of the world and enhances many mass sequences. There is solid acting and a meaty role combined with the mass appeal. The film also has Karthik Subbaraj’s stamp here and there, which gives Petta the much-needed boost. There are nearly half a dozen actors in Petta, yet the women have been given substantial roles. Anirudh Ravichander’s songs are foot-tapping especially the Petta Parak and Marana Mass song. Rajinikanth impresses us with his impeccable energy level, He successfully reinvented himself by playing roles of his age in his last couple of films. Going by the initial reports, the film looks like a sure-shot entertainer with Rajini-ism written all over it. Petta, which was primarily shot in Tamil, has been released in Telugu and Hindi as well. Die-hard fans of Rajinikanth are eager to see their Superstar in an ultra-stylish avatar after a long time. The film has managed to make several heads turn across the globe, thanks to its intriguing teaser and trailer. And soon, Kaali has to take on Singhar Singh (Nawazuddin Siddique), a politician in Uttar Pradesh, and his son, Jithu (Vijay Sethupathi). But there is more to him than meets the eye. Kaali (Rajinikanth) joins a college as a hostel warden and sets things in order on his own playful way, playing Cupid to a young couple (Megha Akash and Sanath), romancing the girl’s mother (Simran) and putting the rowdy boys, headed by Michael (Bobby Simha) in their place. The action-drama also features Vijay Sethupathi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Simran and Trisha in prominent roles. Whereas, the second half belongs to the ‘Thalaivar Fan’ with Rajini moments. The first half belongs to Rajinikanth the Superstar, with little Karthik Subbaraj moments. The film can be easily divided into 2 parts. Still he manages to retain his Midas touch throughout the film, with massive twists and surprises every now and then. Karthik Subbaraj’s 5th directorial Petta is his most commercial film yet. Director Karthik Subbaraj‘s dream project Petta, with his idol Superstar Rajinikanth, has hit the theatres today.
